So how do you match your ties with your shirts?

Firstly, make sure you match your ties to your shirts and not the other way round. This is practical as it does not make sense to buy shirts based on the ties that you own, as the logical method would be the other way around. It makes no sense to build your wardrobe based on the ties you own.

Next, determine the type function that you are going to dress up for, and once you have decided on your shirt, you can start on your ties. If you are wearing a solid shirt, make sure you choose a patterned tie to go with it. The rule of thumb acknowledges that the tie has to be of a darker shade than the shirt. If you are wearing a patterned shirt, opt for a solid tie with a less noticeable colour than the shirt. This would make you look fashion-savvy, and net you plenty of attention. And if you are wearing a striped shirt, take extreme care not to wear a striped tie as well.
